The Port of Gladstone and the land set aside by the Queensland Government for future large scale industry development and associated infrastructure are key assets fundamental to Gladstone’s development.

The Port of Gladstone and the Gladstone State Development Area provides key infrastructure for the region, for Queensland and for Australia. In 2009-10 30% of Queensland’s exports by tonnage carried by sea were traded through the Port of Gladstone. By value, this trade represented 20% of Queensland’s exports and 4.4% of Australia’s exports. Good Planning Brings a Bright New Dawn

The first shipload of Queensland-sourced natural gas is due to leave Gladstone harbour in 2014. If current projections are right this will be the beginning of a new and prosperous era and the birth of a new industry for Queensland that will generate billions of dollars and thousands of jobs.
The three most advanced projects led by Santos, Origin and QGC when completed will extract coal seam gas from thousands of wells on the Western Downs and the Surat Basin. The gas will then be transported by pipeline to liquefied natural gas facilities on Curtis Island, before being shipped to customers around the world. The due process for making planning applications and gaining development and environmental approvals from a project proponent for large scale industrial development within Queensland and for the Gladstone State Development Area is a very comprehensive, detailed and public process.
