NEW APPOINTMENT FOR GEIDB

Mr Leo Zussino, Chairman of the Gladstone Economic and Industry Development Board (GEIDB) today welcomed the appointment of new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Randall Byram."The GEIDB recently completed the selection of Mr Byram to replace Dr Ken King who will shortly commence his appointment as Director, Market Strategy in the Department of State Development, Trade and Innovation." Mr Zussino said.
"Mr Byram who will take up the position of GEIDB CEO on 21 August 2006 has substantial project delivery experience for the Queensland Government in the areas of sustainable development and infrastructure facilitation with a focus on the resource sector. Most recently Randall has been working as Acting Executive Director, Regional Infrastructure, The Coordinator-General.
"In his new role with the GEIDB Randall will work closely with me and the GEIDB Board members to continue the close cooperation between the Queensland Government and the community to advance the Gladstone Region as a diverse, well planned, internationally competitive industrial centre supporting a well-balanced regional economy." Mr Zussino said.
"Since its establishment in 1999, the GEIDB, working with the Queensland Coordinator-General and with State and Commonwealth Government agencies, has played an important role in identifying strategic project opportunities for the region. The GEIDB liaises with potential investors and interacts with key stakeholders to assist projects move towards commitment, construction and operation.
"A focus for the GEIDB is the Queensland Government's Gladstone State Development Area (GSDA), an area in excess of 21,000ha established to ensure that economic growth in the region will not be limited by the supply of appropriate industrial land. There are already a number of existing industries on the GSDA, including the Comalco Alumina Refinery, Orica Australia and Transpacific Industries." Mr Zussino said.
"The new CEO will continue to work with these companies and with the proponents of a number of major industrial projects under investigation and proposed for future location on the GSDA. Collectively, these projects will generate strong growth in the Gladstone/Calliope area.
Welcoming Mr Bryam, Mr Zussino also congratulated Dr King on his successful work with the GEIDB over the last three years and wished him well for the future in his new role in Brisbane.
"There is no doubt that the Gladstone Region is the premier industry area for Queensland and we will see a series of new major industries established over the next two decades to the benefit of job and wealth creation within our community," Mr Zussino said.
"The Gladstone Region currently generates some 27% of Queensland's total volume exports valued at over $5 billion. This trade will grow and the Gladstone Community will benefit. The GEIDB will continue to play a key role in developing the Gladstone Region," Mr Zussino added.
