SEGRA 2005 Gladstone Industry Development and Study Tour

25th August, 2005

As part of the 9th National Sustainable Economic Growth for Regional Australia (SEGRA) Conference to be held on 5-7th September 2005 in Yeppoon the Gladstone Economic & Industry Development Board (GEIDB) will be hosting a Study Tour and Sustainable Industry Development Forum in Gladstone on Wednesday 7th September 2005.

The Study Tour is one component of SEGRA 2005’s action agenda to understand regional industry drivers and recognise the keys to industry structure and implications for business growth in regional centres. The full day visit to Gladstone is a key opportunity in this context and the Study Tour is well subscribed.

The Study Tour commences in Yeppoon with up to 50 SEGRA 2005 delegates travelling to the Gladstone Region by bus. The Study Tour will showcase sustainable industry development in the Gladstone Region with the delegates visiting the Comalco Alumina Refinery (CAR) and viewing Gladstone’s major industries.

The Forum will take place at the Central Queensland University Engineering Building from 12noon to 2.30pm. The Forum is being held in partnership with the GEA Major Projects Conference and Showcase 2005.

At the Forum speakers from Central Queensland Ports Authority, Boyne Smelters Limited and Orica Australia will highlight sustainable industry development and growth in the region. SEGRA delegates and attendees from the GEA Major Projects Conference will discuss the Gladstone Region’s industry development with local industry operators, representatives from the training and education sector, government corporations and agencies.
