2006 World Technopolis Association (WTA) 5th General Assembly and Conference
8th May, 2006
The 5th General Assembly and Conference of the World Technopolis Association (WTA) is being held in Brisbane this year from 26-28th July, the first time the WTA has gathered in the southern hemisphere.
The 5th WTA General Assembly will herald a new era for the WTA as it takes a leading role in defining and developing a knowledge base to support the development of science and technology to create smart cities.
The WTA was established in June 1997 in Daejeon, Korea as a multilateral cooperative international organisation. The main goals of the WTA are to promote regional development and shared prosperity through exchanges and cooperation among science cities; and to contribute further to the happiness and well-being of all peoples through the advancement of science and technology. The WTA holds its General Assembly every two years, rotating its venue among members.
A unique feature of the 2006 General Assembly in Brisbane, will be the introduction of a “Foresight Project” – the ‘Smart City Futures Project’ – designed to engage cities, business, industry and universities throughout WTA member cities and beyond, in pre-conference discussion. The discussion, to be conducted online at http://fs6.formsite.com/globalforesight/form670144614/index.html,
will establish productive and dynamic dialogues in the lead-up to the General Assembly. The ‘Smart City Futures Project’ will culminate on Day 2 with the “Future for Smart Cities Conference”, which will focus on the five streams of city capital – Natural, Human, Social, Infrastructure and Financial.
The WTA Presidents Conference, hosted by the University of Queensland will also be a key feature on Day 1 of the Assembly’s program. Day 3 of the Assembly will be hosted by WTA member city Ipswich, which has arranged programs for delegates to visit Springfield Land Development or the Boeing and Royal Australia Air Force (RAAF) Airbase.
Post Conference tours in WTA member cities of Gladstone and Townsville will showcase these regions, world-class industry and some of the regions’ most beautiful destinations including the Great Barrier Reef.
