Gladstone industry support sector strong
The Gladstone Region has a strongly developed industry support sector that has developed in parallel with the large industrial plants in the region to supply engineering & support services to these plants. The services involve the maintenance of components, provision of equipment and spare part refurbishing, as well as the construction of new equipment and facilities for these major manufacturing and minerals processing plants.
There are many small to medium sized companies which have developed innovative solutions to providing these services, resulting in highly efficient service provision to the sector. The firms hold significant intellectual property in the se process and have the business acumen to work in sophisticated service contracts which meet the industry needs for a high level of quality and excellent performance against social objectives of major plant owners.
There are many close relations between the engineering service sector and major industry including anode refurbishing for the Boyne Smelter, a reliability alliance involving several locally based firms for the Comalco Alumina Refinery and specialist valve maintenance relationships between the Refineries and local engineering service companies.
The establishment of the Gladstone Engineering Alliance (GEA) serves to capitalise on the strong industry support sector and develop industry support capabilities into the future.
The GEA represents an alliance of engineering manufacturers, providers and their suppliers in the Gladstone region. It has been formed to assist its members to optimise their competitiveness by working together on common issues, contract information and ideas, and to institute training programs to lift the individual and overall staff skills and management standards. Clients of GEA member companies will benefit by dealing with quality orientated, competitive companies able to form a specialised group to meet their client’s specific needs.
