Queensland Coke & Energy Project

5th June, 2006

Queensland Coke & Energy Pty Ltd (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Macarthur Coal Limited - MCC) and Stanwell Corporation Limited are undertaking a feasibility study into the construction and operation of a combined coke plant and power station within the Stanwell Energy Park, located 25 kilometres south west of Rockhampton in central Queensland. The Stanwell Energy Park is located adjacent to the existing Stanwell Power Station.

The decision to proceed with the project will be dependent on the successful outcome of the feasibility study which is currently in progress. A supplementary report to the EIS is also in progress. Construction is targeted for Q3/Q4 2006.

The coke plant will produce high quality coke for use in blast furnaces in the steel industry, using coal sourced from Queensland mines. The coke will be transported by rail to the Port of Gladstone for export to markets in Asia, Europe and the Americas. Excess heat, generated by the combustion of coal gases in the coke plant, will be used to produce steam to generate electricity for the National Electricity Market.
