Gladstone Region–Social Infrastructure Strategic Plan
The Gladstone Region has the potential for a number of significant industrial projects to be developed over the short, medium and long-term. Managing the economic growth and the social cumulative impacts of these projects are issues that need to be addressed especially the provision of social infrastructure.
The Gladstone Region Social Infrastructure Strategic Plan (SISP) is being developed as a collaborative effort between the Gladstone Economic and Industry Development Board (GEIDB), Department of Infrastructure and Planning and Gladstone Regional Council (GRC) and is expected to take 12 months to complete. The SISP project manager is Mr Garry Scanlan, Chief Executive of the GEIDB.
In January 2009, following a competitive tender, the Deputy Premier announced that Buckley Vann Planning Consultants and their sub-contractors, Andrea Young Planning Consultants and Briggs and Mortar, had been appointed to assist in developing the SISP.
An audit will be undertaken to identify, quantify and prioritise any gaps in the current community facilities and services available. Focus group meetings will be held with community facility and service providers so all agencies can express their views about social infrastructure needs and opportunities.
The Gladstone Infrastructure Working Group, comprising major providers of social infrastructure and services, will meet regularly as a reference group for the project to help guide the study and ensure the SISP is consistent with other Gladstone region planning work.
